Today was Piper and her siblings 1st birthday so it was time to celebrate. A few extra kibbles in the bowl for breakfast and dinner seemed like a good gift to me but Piper had other ideas and they involved birds. I called Amy from work and told her to start thawing some birds. Once I got home Conner and I loaded up Piper and off we went with our ducks in hand for a little training session that involved land and water. Piper’s birthday treat couldn’t have been timed better since rotten dead ducks are on the menu this Saturday and Sunday at our Whistling Wing HRC event. Piper enjoyed her gift of ducks and after circling the first mark a few times finally picked it up and returned to my side. The subsequent marks were all picked up quickly putting to rest my worry that she might refuse the old dead birds. While I’m sure Piper would have preferred a 47 bird Tower Shoot as a gift her extra kibbles and dead ducks will just have to do for now.
We are also looking forward to catching up with Piper’s sister Niko this Saturday and Sunday at the hunt test. It will be a great opportunity for John and I to compare notes and to hopefully let the dogs reunite and celebrate a Started pass together, at least that is the plan!
